On Asymptotic Universality of Strong Interactions at Large Distances

چکیده
We propose a generalisation of the Pomeranchuk theorem which argues that elastic cross-sections should show universal energy dependence: difference integrated any pair initial channels has to disappear at high enough energy.

The strong coupling constant at large distances
In this paper we discuss effective strong coupling constants. Those are well behaved in the low-Q2 domain, contrarily to αs from pQCD. We present an extraction of an effective strong coupling constant from Jefferson Lab polarized data at intermediate and low Q2. We also show how these data, together with spin sum rules, allow us to obtain the effective coupling constant over the entire Q2 range...
متن کاملA Note on the Strong Law of Large Numbers
Petrov (1996) proved the connection between general moment conditions and the applicability of the strong law of large numbers to a sequence of pairwise independent and identically distributed random variables. This note examines this connection to a sequence of pairwise negative quadrant dependent (NQD) and identically distributed random variables. As a consequence of the main theorem ...
متن کاملAsymptotic regimes in quantum gravity at large distances and running Newtonian and cosmological constants
We consider a multiplicatively renormalizable higher-derivative scalar theory which is used as an effective theory for quantum gravity at large distances (infrared phase of quantum gravity). The asymptotic regimes (in particular, the asymptotically free infrared regime) for the coupling constants —specifically the Newtonian and the cosmological constant— are obtained. The running of the Newton ...
متن کاملAstrophysical constraints on modifying gravity at large distances
Recently, several interesting proposals were made modifying the law of gravity on large scales, within a sensible relativistic formulation. This allows a precise formulation of the idea that such a modification might account for galaxy rotation curves, instead of the usual interpretation of these curves as evidence for dark matter. Here we summarize several observational constraints that any su...
متن کاملStrong Interactions at Low Energies
The lectures review some of the basic concepts relevant for an understanding of the low energy properties of the strong interactions: chiral symmetry, spontaneous symmetry breakdown, Goldstone bosons, quark condensate. The effective field theory used to analyze the low energy structure is briefly sketched. As an illustration, I discuss the implications of the recent data on the decay K → ππeν f...
